The pavilion and most of the crown consists of glass. This glass can have almost any colour in this case it is green to imitate Emerald. A thin slice of natural garnet, usually red, is fused by heat and pressure to the crown's centre. This is one of the well done pieces as face up there is no eye visible demarcation
